The Avatar wizard is most often played within the MTG Commander format
Oh and those power matters cards really do matter, just watch your opponent's jaws drop when you follow up with Ghalta, Primal Hunger and Volcanic Salvo
The main combo revolves around a Pod effect, like on Vivien on the Hunt and Birthing Pod, and making infinite combos with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
I wish I had an answer for when it was right to turn the corner, but its fairly imprecise
Please do not suggest fetch lands because I cannot get a grasp on one, too expensive :( The deck contains a bit of control (Counterspells, and artifact/enchantment destruction) and guys hitting the opponent's face to get the Derevi, Empyrial Tactician trigger (Hero of Bladehold, Nacatl War-Pride, Sun Quan, Lord of Wu )
This card is good and I expect to have to play against it regularly in Standard
